R. Mihatsch is a transmedia artist and scenographer. In their multifaceted practice they deal with processes of assembling and transferring to question binary structures from a queer perspective.Trans and inter are central concepts and methods in their artistic practice to work at the intersection of visual and performing arts, gender, outdoor and indoor spaces. They combine a variety of materials, media, objects, sound and light to create multisensory experiences and transmedia works that include large-scale installations, video works and digital prints. In live performances, they bring queer bodies into intimate relationships with their surroundings and use audiovisual equipment that themselves become part of the installative-performative stagings. For more complex productions they often enter into a close exchange with dancers, musicians, costume designers and filmmakers.
Their own and collaborative works have been shown at places such as the Kunstverein Fuhrwerkswaage, tanzhaus nrw, Ringlokschuppen Ruhr and the Max Ophüls Film Festival. Among others, they have received grants from BMKÖS, Austrian Cultural Forum Berlin, Stiftung Kunstfonds, Fonds Darstellende Künste, Stadt Köln Kulturamt, Cheers For Fears, Kultur Steiermark: CINE ART and Stadt Graz.
