Renate Mihatsch (they/them/she/her) is a transmedia artist with a background in architecture. In their multifaceted practice they deal with processes of assembling and transferring to question binary structures and an anthropocentric worldview. TRANS and INTER are central concepts in their artistic practice to work at the intersection of genre, media, outdoor and indoor spaces. They combine live performances with audiovisual techniques and use a wide variety of materials, objects and light to create multi-sensory experiences and transmedia works. For more complex productions they often enter into a close exchange with dancers, musicians, costume designers and filmmakers.

Among others, they have received grants from Fonds Darstellender Künste, Stiftung Kunstfonds, Cheers For Fears, MKW, Kultur Steiermark – Cine Art and Stadt Graz.

They are based in Cologne and part of a city-funded studio at Quartier am Hafen. They completed postgraduate studies at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (graduation 2021), studied Transmedia Art (Brigitte Kowanz) at the University of Applied Arts Vienna (graduation 2013) and architecture at the Graz University of Technology (graduation 2011). They spent one academic semester in Caracas, Venezuela (2007-08) and one year in Valencia, Spain (2005-06).
